Our Social Finance team specializes in empowering nonprofits to build toward financial sustainability with revenue strategies that actually work. We understand the limitations of traditional revenue models within the nonprofit sector. Our innovative team seeks to create, test, and implement new approaches to revenue for nonprofits, particularly those between $1M and $10M in annual revenue. Using a combination of deep experience in the social sector, rigorous financial methods, exceptional business insights, and authentic facilitation and coaching skills, we support nonprofits through critical growth and sustainability questions. 

The Senior Social Finance Specialist role is perfect for someone who wants to leverage their hard won experience and expertise to advance nonprofit sustainability in a fast-paced and values-driven environment. The Senior Specialist augments 20 Degrees’ team of nonprofit finance experts by translating their deep experience into actionable insights and recommendations for the project teams they’ll serve on and the client engagements they will lead. 

Who You Are: If you possess extensive experience and knowledge within the social and business sectors, and are dissatisfied with the traditional funding models, this role is for you. Ideal candidates would have senior-level experience leading nonprofit operations and development, social enterprises, or small businesses. If we were to take a “build your own pizza” approach to this job we’d order: dough kneaded from real nonprofit lessons, sauce simmered with outcome-driven pragmatism, and a crisp finish of entrepreneurial energy—served as the best answer for our clients’ questions.

Essential Responsibilities

Client Deliverables and Support (75%):

  • Client Engagement & Support: You will be the first point of contact for clients (nonprofit executives and board members) as a facilitator, guide, and subject matter expert by meeting leaders’ questions with significant experience, deep insights, and confident facilitation style.
  • Deliverable Creation & Client Facilitation: You will support nonprofit leaders by delivering 20 Degrees’ products, including:
    • Earned Revenue: You will support nonprofits focused on revenue diversification through exploring, validating, and implementing earned revenue lines. You will facilitate intensive workshops while supporting clients through challenging revenue and mission considerations. This will culminate in your creation of strategy decks and reports that summarize workshop activities and set recommendations for future action. 
    • Scenario Planning: You will support nonprofits concerned about volatility and uncertainty through facilitating workshops centered around scenario planning. Using 20 Degrees’ framework to organize risks and opportunities, you will guide clients thinking through critical scenarios while recommending additional considerations and solutions. You will create action plans and financial projections to support nonprofit leaders in their understanding and ability to take action within these scenarios.  
    • Financial Strategy & Modeling: With your fluency in financial analysis, you will support clients with dynamic financial questions through a mix of deploying, interpreting, and/or creating financial modeling tools. This includes ascertaining clients’ core questions and challenges while either adapting pre-existing solutions or designing new tools. These efforts will help clients gain clarity into their financial questions, build dynamic models that project future possibilities, and allow leadership the insights needed to make sound financial decisions. 
    • Revenue & Strategic Planning: You will support nonprofits in future planning by conducting strategic planning retreats and workshops. Your facilitation of board members and executive staff will solidify a vision of the future while creating frameworks to support this vision becoming a reality. 
  • Solo & Dual Deployment: In this senior position, you will have the responsibility to lead and conduct technically rigorous and complex projects on an individual basis, with oversight from the Director of Social Finance. You will also play a pivotal role in collaborative, cross-functional projects by contributing as a thought leader, strategic partner, and results-oriented project lead.
  • Quality, Efficiency, & Excellence: Knowing the critical importance of our services, you will advance 20 Degrees’ work with high quality, adhering to a standard of excellence and thoroughness expected by our clients. Your portfolio of work will comprise multiple projects and clients, necessitating efficient workflows and seamless task switching based on client needs and interim milestones.

End-to-End Client Management (15%):

  • Project Management: you will be directly responsible for ensuring the timeliness of deliverables, workflows, and overall project timelines. More than checking boxes, this includes ensuring high quality deliverables that meet not only scope of work deliverables but delight clients. 
  • Administration & Coordination: you will be the point of contact for managing, coordinating, and scheduling for your project portfolio
  • Collaboration & Team Coordination: you will collaborate with all internal and external partners to ensure a smooth and successful engagement. This includes working with any non-staff project contributors, coordinating with project teams, and working with the Director of Social Finance to ensure an efficient and balanced portfolio of work.

In this role, not only will you meet scoped deliverables, but ensure that client’s needs are deeply and genuinely understood and met. Your clients’ ability to understand and benefit from the tools you provide as well as the load you lighten for them will be key indicators of fulfilling expectations. You’ll accomplish this through strong client meetings and facilitations, creation and delivery of quality tools and frameworks, and attentive stewardship of our clients throughout the arc of each engagement. 

The job is fast-paced, requiring you to diligently manage multiple project items with minimal supervision. Success in this role means meeting high quality expectations, delivering on assigned projects, managing tasks efficiently, and fostering client relationships to ensure projects are completed more effectively and profitably. This is a critical position with a lot of responsibility, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on both clients and 20 Degrees.

Foundational Qualifications that Make You a Star:

  • 10-12+ years of experience with nonprofits, impact-focused startups, or consultancies during key moments or challenging times leading to meaningful outcomes
  • Broad experiences with the nonprofit or social sector with a focus or interest in revenue generation or social enterprise.
  • Experience includes client engagement and self-directed work in both remote and in-person settings 
  • Desire to be in a fast-paced, remote-first workplace that’s growing and still figuring out some of its processes.
  • Experience conceptualizing, creating, and presenting info decks, presentations, business tools, and briefs.
  • Demonstrated success and exceptional client satisfaction in managing a diverse portfolio of work with key stakeholders
  • Fluency and confidence in financial analysis including interpreting nonprofit financial statements and developing financial model to create projections and insights 
  • Ability to collaborate within a remote-first culture, self-management skills with light supervision, and a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical skills quickly.
  • Not being afraid to ask for clear instructions or help.
  • Openness or excitement to learn new things or see challenges as opportunities for growth.
  • Determination to find good answers, even when things aren’t super clear.

What we bring to the table: This salaried position is 100% virtual and full-time. There is potential to travel 10-20% including occasional travel for in-person delivery of presentations and facilitations as well as an all-hands strategic team retreat in Washington, D.C. 20 Degrees is open to candidates located anywhere in the United States with the DC area, South Florida, and South Carolina being of additional interest. Willingness and ability to work within the Eastern Time Zone is necessary. Base salary ranges between $90,000 – $110,000 based on experience, plus a performance-based bonus structure and profit share with generous benefits. 20 Degrees is proud to offer floating holidays paired with accrued vacation days to allow employees additional flexibility. 20 Degrees has also practiced office closures to allow staff a collective opportunity to rest and reset.
