Description

Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with COOP Careers in the search for a Chief Development Officer.

Reporting to the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Development Officer will develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, diversified fundraising strategy that supports the cultivation of a significant pipeline of major gift prospects and increased fundraising benchmarks from new funders and existing funders. The Chief Development Officer will partner with the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Executive Team, and Board of Directors to further a culture of philanthropy across the organization while focusing on innovative fundraising approaches that advance COOP Career's mission and vision. The Chief Development Officer will lead, expand upon, and motivate a geographically-distributed team of talented fundraising professionals toward the achievement of ambitious fundraising goals. The Chief Development Officer will serve as a spokesperson and advocate for COOP Careers, building and nurturing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including university foundations, advancement offices, local, state, and federal agencies and elected officials, peer nonprofits, economic and workforce development boards, community-based organizations, trustees, and donors in support of COOP’s college partnership and integration strategies.

COOP is building a diverse movement of upwardly mobile college grads overcoming underemployment through digital skills and peer connections. COOP’s aim is to reignite the nation’s promise of upward mobility for those who strive to achieve a brighter future for themselves and their families—to ensure the American Dream is a reality for all. The COOP Fellowship ensures that first-generation and low-income college graduates make the connections they need for the careers they deserve.

COOP closes the social capital gap and propels underemployed college graduates into upward economic mobility through an untapped lever of social-capital building: peer connections. The unique program model matches peer cohorts of motivated college graduates with alumni coaches to support them in building the professional skills and networks they need to get their first good job after graduation. COOP connects unemployed and underemployed college graduates to one another—within cohorts and across “generations” of cohorts. By growing their professional networks, members of the COOP community achieve upward economic mobility by building the skills and connections they need for the careers they deserve. COOP imagines a world in which peer and near-peer connections are the primary drivers to overcoming underemployment—a world in which thousands and thousands of first-generation college grads are fully employed sooner because of their web of peer connections through their COOP networks.

COOP Careers has had a profound impact since its founding in 2014. Through support from funders, partners, and alumni, combined with work and commitment of staff, COOP Careers has helped more than 7,000 underemployed, first-generation college graduates gain the skills and network they need for the careers they deserve. COOP is well on its way to 10,000 alumni by 2025.

COOP is an alumni-led organization where staff bring their authentic selves to work every day. Over 60% of COOP team members have been program participants which translates into a workplace that is mission-driven with deep connections to the community. Rooted in the core values that comprise its three pillars of Head, Heart, and Hustle, the COOP team approaches its work with empathy, curiosity, and a shared sense of purpose.

A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least twelve years of fundraising and business development experience, focused on education or workforce development, is preferred for this position.
