We are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our organization into its next phase of growth and impact. The CEO will provide strategic leadership, drive fundraising efforts, oversee program development and execution, and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Abbott House is a dynamic and impactful non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunity and a promising future for children, families and adults suffering from serious developmental challenges or recovering from trauma and abuse in a variety of settings including foster care and adoption services, residential programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Children and Family Treatment and Support Services as well as
community-based programs. We are committed to providing individualized treatment programs and trauma-based therapies that promote healing, self-direction and independence.With a passionate team and a strong network of supporters, we strive to make a positive and lasting difference in underserved communities including children in the foster care system or mental health issues, adults with development and intellectual disabilities and youth in a

Key Responsibilities:
Provide strong leadership, direction, supervision, and support to professional staff in order to:

  • ensure high-quality care for all clients of the agency at all times
  • sustain a culture of constant cooperation, mutual support, and impeccable integrity among all staff across the agency
  • ensure total conformity to all laws and regulations pertaining to Abbott House, including its programs, staff functions and governance
  • maintain and strengthen the financial viability of the agency
  • be a ”hands-on” leader, sustaining personal presence and availability to staff of all levels.

Develop and implement strategies that:

  • sustain, strengthen and foresee the changes in the mission of Abbott House
  • successfully adapt the organization to new challenges, to include the addition and reduction of programs as necessary
  • are the product of close consultation and cooperation with staff and a variety of Committees

Be communicative and accountable to the Board of Directors on:

  • all major aspects of agency operations and significant new developments
  • the quality of care provided every child, adult and family entrusted to Abbott House
  • the financial performance of the agency
  • staff recruitment, retention and development
  • the preservation and enhancement of an organizational culture based on integrity and the highest professional standards in every program and staff function
  • the implementation of Board policies and decisions
  • identification of meaningful opportunities for Board Directors to help Abbott House.

Develop and oversee a systematic and continuously active program of community and
government relations. Whenever useful or necessary, represent Abbott House in its
communications and dealings with Federal, State, and local social-services authorities, and with
political leaders.

Act as chief advocate and spokesperson for the agency with all external constituencies,
including the media.

Qualifications:

  • Strong educational credentials for the social-services profession: MSW, MPA, or Master’s Degree in a related field
  • At least ten years of progressive administrative and supervisory experience in a multi service agency like to Abbott House
  • Substantial experience as a senior executive in a complex human-services organization, including demonstrated ability for the management of a large, diverse, multi-site organization
  • Substantial knowledge of the programs Abbott House provides children, adults, and families
  • Meaningful working experience with, and a sound understanding of, multiple funding organizations, including their regulations, processes, and contractual relationships. (For Abbott House, these organizations are: a) in New York State, the Office of Children and Family Services, the Office of Mental Health, the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, the Department of Health; b) at the County level in New York, the Local Department of Social Services in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, as well as other counties; c) in New York City, the Administration for Children’s Services and the Department of Education; d) at the Federal level, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ACF Office of Refugee Resettlement.)
  • At minimum, a sound familiarity with the activities and needs of all the support functions of an agency like Abbott House, including finance, human resources, legal, information technology, medical services, development, community and government relations, communications
  • The intellectual creativity and flexibility to adapt policies, practices, and programs to
    change – in client needs as well as the demands of government authorities
  • The ability to work cooperatively with professional organizations, other social-services
    agencies, and regulatory authorities to meet the needs of clients, sustain Abbot House
    and manage change in the social-services field
  • The ability to interact with political leaders, maintaining positive working relationships
    that help to meet the human-service goals of Abbott House
  • A leadership style that emphasizes personal, active, “hands-on” engagement in the
    running of the agency, while also delegating authority and allowing subordinates
    appropriate professional latitude to develop their talents and careers
  • The desire, ability, and self-confidence to work closely and constructively with an active
    Board of Directors – a Board that expects effective working interaction and frank
    exchange of ideas with the CEO
