DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse issues. DBH provides mental health/substance use disorder treatment to all age groups, with a primary emphasis placed on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders. DBH also provides an array of prevention and early intervention services for both mental health and substance abuse. DBH’s core values are service, integrity, accountability and trust.
The Department of Behavioral Health is a unique County department comprised of six service areas: Children, Transitional Age Youth, and Mental Health Services Act; Community Behavioral Health and Recovery Services; 24-hour and Emergency Services; Criminal Justice and Substance Use Disorder and Recovery Services; Administrative/Fiscal Services; and Program Support. Clinical Therapists II are lead workers who direct a small clinical staff. Typical duties consist of providing clinical and administrative consultation to their staff; screening prospective clients for appropriateness of program services; intervening in crisis situations; auditing and monitoring charts; utilization review; payment authorization; and participating in providing rehabilitative mental health/substance abuse services in clinic, institutional, field, and community settings to clients with severe mental, emotional and substance abuse disorders.
Immediate vacancies exist throughout the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH). The resulting eligible list may be used to fill immediate and future vacancies throughout the County as they occur, including any vacancies in the psychiatric unit of the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), a Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate would be required of these positions.

Background check: An extensive background check will include credit check, fingerprint/DOJ LiveScan, and DMV check. Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident. Medical exam will also include drug and TB tests.
Shifts: Some programs offer 24-hour services; some assignments may require employees to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required depending upon assignment. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
Qualifying Experience: Official job offers cannot be made until candidate possesses one (1) year of experience as a licensed therapist in a mental health or social service setting. Contingent job offers may be made to candidates who are within three (3) months of completing one (1) year of the requisite experience as a licensed therapist.
Professional License in the State of California: Must have one (1) of the following:
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
The title, registration number, and expiration date of the license must be indicated on the supplemental questionnaire.
Experience: One (1) year of experience as a licensed therapist in a mental health or social service setting; the application must clearly distinguish between pre-licensed and post-licensed experience. Note: Applications will be accepted from candidates who are within three (3) months of completing one (1) year of experience as a licensed therapist in a mental health or social service setting at time of application. Verification of qualifications will be required prior to hire.

The following experience is highly desirable:
- Two (2) years of experience as a licensed therapist in a behavioral health or social services setting.
- Experience providing clinical or administrative supervision over clinical interns and/or trainees.
- Experience in a behavioral health or social service setting in a leadership role either managing a special assignment or providing occasional supervisory coverage.
- Currently employed as a therapist.
