Summary

The communications and development specialist will: Implement an innovative and robust communications strategy that engages multiple audiences and builds upon an already strong website, social media, and e-newsletter presence. As part of this role, you will collaborate closely with an engaged and skilled communications team as well as connect all staff including directors on multiple projects on a regular basis. Engage in regular grant prospecting, drafting, submission and reporting efforts.

Description

What will you be doing in terms of Communications?

  1. Telling the story of our work. You’ll work with the full staff to illustrate the best of our work and thinking. We believe our collective story has to be told through the voices of all of our staff, educators we work with, students they impact, communities that improve, and legislators who create better learning conditions. You will communicate mission, goals, and impact in a compelling and organized manner across multiple platforms.
  2. Collaborating. Collaborate with various individuals and teams to contribute to and implement a robust communications strategy that positions the organization as a leader in the field of educational equity across the New England region. Strategize with the communications team to align with the organizational strategic plan and track progress towards communication goals.
  3. Collaborate with the communications team. As a member of the communications team, attend weekly meetings, develop a communications calendar and collaborate with key teams (network team, operations team, directors team, tool team) to ensure messaging and communications are well coordinated across the organization. As GSP’s communications team is cross-functional in nature, you will be a critical part of supporting communications and development activities that may also involve marketing, content development, client support, graphic design, and more.
  4. Enhancing our website, building upon our social media presence, and supporting resource development. You will use WordPress, Emma, HubSpot, Elementor, formsite, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Adobe Audition and other plugins to enhance our website to provide resources for educators. You’ll be a part of our tool team and will be helping to edit, lay out and produce these tools. You’ll also provide support on larger projects with coaches working to create web, print, and presentation materials that are high-quality and aligned with organizational branding.
  5. Supporting and building internal and external communications systems. In collaboration with the director of people operations, work to align systems to share information internally using Google Suite, our intranet and assist in showcasing employee satisfaction. You will employ writing and design skills to work to update and develop materials for marketing, development and networking purposes such as conference materials, procurement documents, and GSP branded materials.
  6. Brand management. You will create and manage branding standards to include, but not limited to, logo use in publications, style guides, templates, Zoom backgrounds, and apparel.

What will you be doing in terms of Development?

  1. Support strategy. Attend regular development team meetings and support directors in forging partnerships with multiple organizations, funders and agencies. You will also provide program event assistance in the area of communications and outreach that may include but is not limited to, the creation of tool kits, web content development, virtual and written content, communication tools, news bulletins, press releases, and other project related activities.
  2. Grant management. Assist in the management of the grants cycle, including prospecting on a regular basis, proposal writing, deadline tracking and final submission and reporting on all grants. Maintain accurate records and data management systems, including databases and grant-tracking software. Maintain an organization-wide grants calendar, grant files, and associated CRM records.
  3. Reporting and analysis. Streamline grant and development operations by assisting with the creation of branded materials and reports. Collect key data from relevant teams and organize into reports and presentations to meet reporting deadlines.

An additional consideration

We are especially interested in candidates who have experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Audition, Google ads, Instrumental grant prospecting software, and an intermediate understanding of HTML.

Location

The communications specialist may work virtually from a home office. This job requires virtual collaboration with GSP staff and external partners. The GSP team convenes in person approximately 6 times a year – for retreats and an annual conference. We prefer that employees live in one of the six New England states (the core of our work) and will consider candidates who live in eastern New York.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $53,227 to $62,620. If your alignment with the compensable factors listed in the job description falls below the federal minimum threshold of $58,656 annually, this position will be nonexempt.

GSP covers the full cost of health insurance for each staff member, 50% of costs of family health insurance, an additional 2.5% of salary contributed to a 403(b) retirement plan, an additional 4.5% of salary into a flex fund for health care or retirement, four weeks of vacation, five personal days, six sick days, eight holidays, tuition reimbursement, and eight weeks of paid parental leave.
