The Development Director works collaboratively with the Executive Director to expand and diversify the base of annual fund supporters by developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual, corporate, foundation, and other donors to support the fundraising goals of the organization. The Development Director also works with contracted marketing, direct mail, and grant professionals and firms to build a solid professional annual giving program to sustain food bank operations and programs annually. A professional that is strategic yet also administrative is critical for this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement fundraising and program strategy to support the total private contributions to the operating budget to fulfill the mission and goals of the food bank 
  • Communicates collaborates with, and assists marketing professionals in planning and execution of signature events and corporate funder relationships
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships and serving as the development liaison to county, city, and state officials as well as college representatives and other key personnel to achieve successful fundraising with potential leads and business partners. This includes the writing of proposals, grant reports, and other donor communication and solicitation materials.
  • Identifies opportunities and programs to engage new donors as well as maintain relationships with current and past donors.  Prospect research is a top priority.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director to establish a presence in the community to increase the organization’s visibility as a leader in hunger relief work
  • Implements cultivation and solicitations strategies to successfully convert corporate volunteer groups, food donors, and event participants into ongoing financial sponsors and donors
  • Maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date donor contact action calendar in Donor Perfect that tracks funding results, detailed engagements with the donors, and ensures timely submission of funding requests and personalized acknowledgment letters.   
  • Produces tracking reports to ensure accurate forecasting of revenue and uses national, local, and historical fundraising trends to drive ambitious and sustainable fundraising results
  • Works with the contracted marketing firm to employ innovative methods of communication to increase community awareness, enthusiasm, and giving

Education and/or Experience

  • Previous experience in fundraising/development required
  • College courses in the field of marketing, public relations; or related field
  • Associate degree in the field of public relations; or related field and 2-5 years related experience and/or training
  • Bachelor’s preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

                   Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

                   CFRE preferred.
