The Alliance for Quality Education (AQE) is a coalition mobilizing communities across the state to keep NY true to its promise of ensuring a high quality public education to all students regardless of zip code. Combining its legislative and policy expertise with grassroots organizing, AQE advances proven-to-work strategies that lead to student success and ultimately create a powerful public demand for a high quality education.

This work is rooted in strong parent and community organizing and leadership development. We have an active education presence in 5 upstate communities, NYC & Long Island. AQE is able to draw on member organizations that have over 150,000 members statewide.


We’re looking to add a Digital Organizer to our team. This position is located in the Capital District in NYS. 

The person in this position will be responsible for digital engagement with supporters through social media and other digital tools. The digital organizer uses— and can train others to use — social media, texting, multimedia, databases, and spreadsheets to bring in new supporters and lead people up a ladder of engagement. Independence, timeliness with projects, and collaboration with partners both inside and outside the organization are an essential part of the work. 


What you’ll do and the impact you'll make:

  • Build our base of supporters through digital advertising, social media, texting, and other digital tools.
  •  Reach out to supporters to have them take actions with us online.
  •  Craft engaging social media posts, cultivate community within Facebook groups, and explore how new social media platforms and features (FB messenger, Instagram, etc.) can be used to reach new parents.
  • Create compelling graphics and videos for social posts, online ads, email blasts, etc.
  • Create advocacy toolkits for campaigns and events to help boost public engagement online and in person 
  • Support staff in using texting tools like Spoke and other software tools for organizing.
  •  In collaboration with other staff, help supporters share their stories through videos, images, writing, press interviews, storytelling etc.
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to other organizers and community members, helping them use technology and online outreach to further organizing goals.
  • Use online tools to boost the organization’s fundraising through online giving.
  • As part of the communications team, develop communications strategies in support of organizational goals and local and statewide advocacy campaigns in print, online and digital media
  • Perform other duties as required to support the work of the organization as a whole.


Who you are and what you've accomplished:

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media profiles for a nonprofit, business, political candidate, or similar—proven experience using social media to build and engage a large online community strongly preferred
  • Advanced understanding of Facebook Page Manager, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Business Manager, and other social media tools, including social media analytics and paid advertising
  • An eye for graphic design and experience creating impactful graphics
  • Interest in and ability to learn new and emerging online tools quickly and independently


Extra credit:

  • Prior experience creating and using digital campaign tools, including but not limited to CRMs (e.g. Action Network) databases (e.g. Voter Action Network), mass texting tools (e.g. Spoke or Hustle), virtual phone bank platforms, etc.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or Canva 
  • Technical skills with website management, including experience with WordPress, HTML and CSS, etc.

Salary: The salary for this is a range between $50,000-54,500 depending on experience.
