AAFA has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to assist in its recruitment efforts for its next Director of Education. 

About the Opportunity:

The Director of Education serves as the organization’s in-house subject matter expert and evangelizes the power and potential of AAFA’s technology, tools, and research to lead the organization’s education program department. The Director of Education is responsible for leadership and strategy for multiple educational projects and programs, from conception to delivery, for patients and allied health professionals. The Director of Education will manage a project portfolio with digital and print content including: educational webinars, online programs, live training sessions, health fairs or conferences. The Director of Education is responsible for curating informative, innovative, and practical programming to address the needs of a diverse constituency.

The Director of Education will work under minimal supervision under the direction of the Vice President of Digital Strategy and Community Services. The position requires proficiency in knowledge about asthma and allergic diseases, and the ability to educate and provide tools to populations that are historically underserved.

This role requires passion for AAFA’s mission and goals, and a wide degree of creativity and latitude.  The person in this role has strong supervisory, management, administrative and project management skills; as well as experience in health and patient education.

The Director of Education should be skilled at building relationships among and working effectively with diverse groups, and preferably have knowledge of and/or experience serving underrepresented communities, neighborhoods, and populations. It is essential that this person possess excellent written and oral communication skills, with considerable experience in writing and presenting information to a variety of audiences, as well as demonstrated ability to measure outcomes through program evaluations and needs assessments.  The ideal candidate for this role is not afraid to laugh on the job, and believes in the importance of a friendly and collegial workplace and is eager to join a team that values a sense of humor.

Requirements: 

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree or other advanced degree, in public health, nursing or a related field and a minimum of five years’ experience in health and patient education, program delivery, content development and digital health communications. The incumbent will have at least two years of supervisory experience.  Candidates who possess the CHES or AEC credential are encouraged to apply. Experience educating and reaching historically underserved, low-literacy and excluded communities (including communities of color and low-income communities) required, along with advanced competency in developing educational materials for the patient or health care professional audience.
