The Director of Marketing & Communications for Make-A-Wish New Jersey will be responsible for creative storytelling through digital and traditional communications channels, working cross-departmentally to create a shared vision of our globally recognized brand.

Scope of Position:
The Director of Marketing & Communications for Make-A-Wish New Jersey will be responsible for creative storytelling through digital and traditional communications channels, working cross-departmentally to create a shared vision of our globally recognized brand. The ideal candidate will be responsible for all aspects of media relations and publicity, strategic and executive communications both internally and externally, and leading the marketing and communications team. They will oversee a team that manages chapter website and social media platforms, email marketing programs, video storytelling and more. The ideal candidate will serve as a brand expert for production of creative needs for the chapter, supporting mission delivery and medical outreach initiatives, and signature event and corporate campaign programs, supporting the development team. They will continue to bring to the table new initiatives and creative strategy to advance the mission, vision and values of Make-A-Wish.

Direct Supervisor: Chief of Staff & COO

Responsibilities:
 

  • Media & Public Relations
    • Drafts and executes pitches and releases for events, campaigns and high profile wishes
    • Maintains media relationships for New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia markets
    • Serves as onsite media contact at special events and campaigns
    • Creates talking points for interviews President & CEO and other senior leadership team members
    • Creates quotes for media stories on behalf of President & CEO and other senior leadership team members
    • Maintains media database, oversees media monitoring, and creates impact reports
    • Serves as spokesperson as needed

 

  • Digital Communications
    • Develops and oversees social media, email, and website marketing strategy
    • Initiates best practices in the social and digital space
    • Oversees staff to manage chapter website ensuring consistent messaging, brand compliance, and content creation
    • Provides timely updates including crisis communication directly to Chief of Staff & COO, and President & CEO

 

  • Video Production
    • Oversees all chapter video productions with external videographers
    • In-house video content creator for smaller video productions

 

  • Special Events
    • Serves as project manager for event program-related projects for chapter signature events, oversees vendors for marketing/communication needs
    • Prepares speeches, talking points, programs, videos and graphic elements for event production
    • Facilitates and prepares wish families, board chairs, staff members and other public speakers
    • Oversees Theater A/V resources at MAWNJ Headquarters for signature events and other initiatives
    • Supports creation of presentations and proposals for President & CEO

 

  • Corporate Partnerships
    • Works directly with development team on all corporate partnership activations at local, regional and national levels
    • Serves as chapter liaison to national office for national corporate partnership cause-marketing activations, in congruence with development team

 

  • Brand Management
    • Oversees brand approval and execution of design projects for chapter across all departments
    • Serves as “resident expert” on knowledge of enterprise-wide brand

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Marketing/Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies)
  • 5-7 years’ experience in relevant field
  • Experience working in media and public relations, ideally in New York and Philadelphia markets
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office, HTML and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience in Salesforce, Drupal, Luminate a plus
  • Video editing a plus
  • Experience with leveraging multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Experience with Google Analytics
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Flexibility with hours for occasional night/weekend planned events
  • Must pass background check
