Target ALS is a 501(c)(3) public non-profit whose mission is to break down barriers to accelerate ALS research. Since 2013, Target ALS has built an Innovation Ecosystem that has catalyzed ALS drug discovery through collaborations. Target ALS has provided critical research tools for over 1200 projects worldwide with no strings attached.

In just 11 years, the Target ALS Innovation Ecosystem has given rise to a new collaborative research community and led to the development of an array of therapeutic approaches with biological rationale. It is a testament to the effectiveness of the Innovation Ecosystem that fosters the most promising ideas and brings together complementary minds and expertise areas to accelerate the most promising drugs toward clinical trials.

Location: Remote

Salary: $150,000 to $170,000, based on experience and expertise

Position Purpose:  The Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for planning, developing, and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the mission and goals of Target ALS This role requires a dynamic and strategic leader with a proven track record in fundraising, donor relations, and project management. The Director will work closely with the Chief Development Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors and other key staff to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations through diverse revenue channels.

Job Summary:  The Director of Philanthropy, working closely with the Development and Marketing and Communications team, will be responsible for establishing a successful development program focused on individual, foundation and corporate giving to include major gifts, corporate partners, direct response and events. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, creating and executing fundraising strategies and annual plans and will be accountable for managing and stewarding a portfolio of donors. The Director of Philanthropy reports to the Chief Development Officer and works closely with the programs, marketing and communications, and accounting teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Fundraising Strategy and Execution:
    • Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan to achieve annual and long-term financial goals.
    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
    • Oversee the planning and execution of special events, fundraising campaigns, and donor recognition programs.

 

  • Donor Relations and Stewardship:
    • Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective donors.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to donors and funding sources.
    • Create and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship plan.

 

  • Grant Management:
    • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with the Target ALS’ mission.
    • Prepare and submit grant proposals and reports.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with grant requirements.

 

  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and senior leadership team to align fundraising efforts with Target ALS priorities.
    • Work with the marketing and communications team to develop compelling fundraising materials.
    • Serve as an ambassador for Target ALS at external events and meetings.

 

  • Financial Oversight:
    • Working with Development Operations, track and report on fundraising progress and metrics.
    • Ensure ethical handling of funds and donor information in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in a nonprofit setting focused on frontline fundraising.
  • Experienced nonprofit professional with a proven track record of raising revenue from individuals, foundations, corporations, direct response programs and special events.
  • Knowledge of development principles, fund raising techniques and ethics, and donor and prospect strategies.
  • Experience with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
  • Experience with biomedical research organizations a plus.
