St. Christopher s Hospital for Children, a partnership between Tower Health and Drexel University, is a 188-bed facility that provides exceptional care to children throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and surrounding counties.

St. Christopher’s has more than 220 pediatric experts on staff, combining top-notch pediatric care with a wide array of pediatric specialties including Cardiology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Gastroenterology, Oncology, and Orthopedics. It houses the only Verified Pediatric Burn Center between New York City and Baltimore and is one of only three Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers in Pennsylvania. St. Christopher s is a Magnet designated hospital and was recognized as a Women s Choice Award Best Children s Hospital.

Job Summary:

This position includes responsibility for directing the work related to the business and day to day operation of the Volunteer Services Department and supporting the goals and growth of the hospital and Pediatric Associates.

The Director of Volunteer Services shall carry primary responsibility for the organizational plan and administrative procedures, fiscal management, coordination of recruitment, orientation, training and supervision of Volunteers. This position includes responsibility for the supervision of the following programs and/or individuals: Start On Success Program, Pet Therapy Program, Caring Clowns Program, Students Care Buddy Program, Penn Hero s Program, Musicians On Call Program, Pastoral Care Chaplaincy Volunteer Program, Caring Thru Reading Program, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Summer Employment Program (PYN), Shadowing, School Programs, and the continued development and coordination of the Health Tech Work Based Learning Program and supervision of students.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong supervisory skills and experience, excellent interpersonal skills, strong focus on customer service.

Ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers, individuals on all levels of management and employees.

Perform at a high level in a team environment; build partnerships with key players.

Strong fiscal and budgetary experience.

Functions in high-volume, fast-paced environment .

Excellent written and oral skills.

Ability to initiate conversations and reach out to outside contributors for philanthropic donations.

Must have fair and strong judgement and the solid experience of interviewing individuals of various ages, races and disabilities to properly assess qualified candidates for all levels in the department.

Training & Education:

Bachelor s degree preferred or four or more years experience in Volunteer Management, and/or Management experience in a hospital based environment.

Experience:

Minimum of four years as Director or Assistant Director of Volunteer Services in a hospital setting or related field and/or management experience in a hospital based environment. Working knowledge of JCAHO regulations as it applies to Volunteers.
