Summary

Are you looking for a meaningful opportunity to bring high-level endowment and investment experience to a growing client base of nonprofit organizations that will rely on your expert guidance to manage their endowments effectively? The Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) seeks a senior-level Endowment & Investment Strategist to join a vibrant, successful, and growing team that advises Episcopal organizations on all aspects of endowment and investment management.

Description

We are looking for a colleague to work directly with Episcopal churches and other organizations to provide strategic and practical investment advice, in coordination with ECF’s outside portfolio manager, as well as guidance on endowment structure and governance, including investment policies.

ECF is an independent, lay-led, nonprofit organization that is a leading provider of endowment management services to Episcopal churches, dioceses, schools, and other organizations across the country.  The endowment team currently serves several hundred organizations that invest over $700 million in endowment and other investment assets with ECF and its outside portfolio manager, State Street Global Advisors. The team advises Episcopal organizations on strategic investment decisions, appropriate governance structures, and successful endowment giving, and provides significant administrative support to clients.

In this role, you would:

  • Develop new relationships, and nurture and expand existing relationships, with Episcopal organizations of all kinds and sizes throughout the U.S., focusing on endowment, investment, and other financial matters.
  • Meet with current and potential clients to (a) assess endowment-related needs and goals, (b) prepare and present investment information, including investment philosophy, portfolio options, and economic and market context, (c) educate investment committee members and provide enhanced analysis as needed to support informed decision making, and (d) offer strategic guidance as requested.
  • Advise current and potential clients on endowment structure, governance, and oversight, as well as policy development based on ECF’s sample endowment policies, and, in collaboration with the endowment team as appropriate, provide endowment giving advice and resources to support new endowment gifts.
  • Respond to client requests for additional information or clarification about markets, investments, performance, spending, or other investment- or endowment-related issues.
  • Lead quarterly review calls with current clients, with and without the portfolio manager, and participate as appropriate in group quarterly review calls in collaboration with the portfolio manager and other staff.
  • Present at conferences, seminars, and workshops, and in written publications, about ECF endowment management and its impact on churches as well as provide thought leadership in areas of special interest.
  • Collaborate with the endowment management team to carry out client and program-related responsibilities and coordinate directly with the outside portfolio manager as needed.

This position will report to the Director of Endowment Management and, as a senior team member, collaborate with all endowment staff to serve a growing client base of Episcopal organizations that rely on ECF for endowment and investment advice and services.  The endowment team aims to invigorate endowment and investment management across the Episcopal Church with an array of investment options plus a comprehensive set of additional advisory and administrative services and is committed to excellence, professionalism, and outstanding client service.

Your qualifications should include:

  • A Bachelors’ Degree or the equivalent and significant experience in a relevant financial, business, legal or church-related field.
  • Experience with nonprofit endowment or investment management including multi-asset class portfolios; risk and return analysis; and asset allocation, spending, and other strategic decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of investments, financial markets, and various forms of socially responsible investing as well as financial industry trends and developments.
  • Familiarity with Episcopal organizations, church financial management and/or church stewardship, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong analytic and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proven success in relationship building and business development.
  • Proficiency with investment data providers, analytical tools, and relationship management software.
  • Enthusiasm about working with church investment committees.
  • Self-motivation combined with a willingness to work collaboratively with the ECF endowment management team.

This is a full-time position with competitive benefits and a salary ranging from $105,000 to $115,000 depending on experience. Although the ECF office is in New York City, this position can work remotely from anywhere in the United States.  The position will require travel.
