Description
ReLeaf is seeking an Executive Director to manage and expand its programs, serve as an effective ambassador for the organization, and strengthen the foundation for ReLeaf to implement its mission. Just like the trees we love, ReLeaf is growing and our Executive Director should have the acumen to advance the organization from its initial starter phase to a more mature and developed chapter.
The Director must be passionate about ReLeaf’s vision and skilled in conveying its purpose and potential to the community and ReLeaf supporters. A key component of the job is fundraising so that ReLeaf can expand programming in both the arboricultural and education arenas. This position requires a deep knowledge of Charlottesville and surrounding communities and will report to the ReLeaf Cville Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
- Lead ReLeaf’s fundraising initiatives, building a solid financial foundation for ReLeaf to achieve its three goals. This includes creating financial plans to meet short and long-term needs, cultivating donors, and spearheading grant applications.
- Represent the organization and cultivate strong relationships with the community, officials, funders, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Lead detailed strategic planning in collaboration with ReLeaf’s Board of Directors.
- Oversee existing programs with the help of board volunteers.
- Support and help develop the Board of Directors.
- Develop efficient administrative and financial systems and oversee compliance with all relevant laws and policies.
- Continually monitor effectiveness and refine strategies and messaging.
Required attributes
- Passion and understanding for the mission of ReLeaf. This role does not require a deep knowledge of arbor management or tree ecology, but does require a belief that communities benefit from healthy tree canopy.
- Experience in a leadership role, particularly in building and guiding new programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrable fundraising achievements and comfort in forging new partnerships and relationships that benefit ReLeaf.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including familiarity with a variety of communications channels
- Proven track record of cultivating relationships with and within a diverse community.
- Familiarity with and residence in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.
- Ability to work with a board of directors.
- Basic knowledge of environmental services, natural resources, education, and community development.
- Basic knowledge of financial systems, financial oversight, and results-based performance analysis.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple internal and external stakeholder expectations.
- Basic software skills needed in database management, Excel, Quickbooks, Google Docs and other communication and team software.
Recommended Attributes: BA and 3-5 years experience.
