Mercy by the Sea, a retreat and conference center situated on 33 acres on the shores of Long Island Sound, has been welcoming church and professional groups, civic organizations, and businesses since 1972. The Executive Director is responsible for the operation and management of Mercy by the Sea in the areas of finance, programming, development and fundraising, physical plant, public relations, and guest services. The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Trustees and acts as a liaison between the Board and staff. The Executive Director will support the organization’s mission through strategic leadership, staff management, operations oversight, and external relations.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in increasingly responsible strategic leadership roles within a nonprofit organization, preferably in spiritual ministry. The successful candidate will have a passion for the mission of Mercy by the Sea and an understanding of theological and spiritual programming. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in building operational infrastructure, staff development along with experience in fundraising. Qualified candidates will have the ability to build, foster, and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external constituencies including strong board relations. Demonstrated success in fiscal management, budget preparation, and executing a strong organizational financial policy is required. Outstanding written and verbal communications skills are essential as are visionary and strategic planning capabilities. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Willing and able to travel regionally and must be available to attend events after work hours or on weekends as needed.
