Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and leadership team in setting and driving short- and long-term organizational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs
  • Implement the strategic plan of the organization, ensuring programs are aligned to obtain outcomes efficiently and effectively
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies
  • Directly oversee fundraising, donor relations, grant applications, shelter operations, veterinary services, volunteer resources, finance, and human resources
  • Drive the day-to-day operations of PAWS to meet short and long-term goals and projections, implementing organization-wide goal setting, performance management and annual planning
  • Build an effective leadership team; empowering them with the vision and resources they need to successfully complete strategic initiatives and annual objectives
  • Aggressively manage programs, fundraising programs and expenses to ensure the organization meets annual goals across all areas
  • Develop and maintain efforts to increase public awareness of PAWS
  • Strengthen and grow the funding base for PAWS operations through strong leadership, creative thinking and innovative strategies.
  • Work with the leadership team to manage all aspects of human resource management including employee engagement, rewards, recruiting, onboarding and retention
  • Lead the staff and volunteer teams in fostering a success-oriented culture focused on accountability, as well as creating an environment of open communication and feedback, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Work with shelter and veterinary operations leadership to analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement
  • Monitor KPI’s and prepare detailed reports on the business for the Board of Directors; establishing corrective measures as needed and develop plans to improve relevant KPIs
  • Maintain and build trusted relationships with Board of Directors, Advisory Council, leadership team key donors, partners, and stakeholders
  • Bring to the board or request guidance on issues that may impact the community or the organization both in achieving current year goals or in the future beyond the current cycle of the strategic plan
  • Adhere to organization, federal, state, and local business requirements, enforcing compliance; act when necessary to protect nonprofit status and PAW’s reputation in the community

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field, Master’s degree in business, public administration, the social sciences or a related field preferred
  • 10+ years of industry experience in leadership positions management and growth of revenues and funding sources in organizations with operational budgets of $500K or more.
  • Demonstrated experience in functional leadership and operations management
  • Familiarity with operational procedures at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical capabilities with a data-driven mindset  
  • Previous fundraising experience; with Capital Campaign expertise preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with non-profit organizations preferred. Relevant fields of experience may include, but are not limited to, animal, wildlife/environment, human services, and social action advocacy-related services.
