Gen-Z for Change is looking for a bold and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization into the next stage of its development. The Executive Director oversees the organization's day-to-day operations, as well as its long-term strategic goals. They manage a team of nearly 20 and work to advance Gen-Z for Change's mission of educating and mobilizing the next generation of leaders and changemakers. They are also tasked with overseeing fundraising efforts.

Classification: Full-time, Exempt 
Starting Salary: $85,000 – $95,000                                                                                                  Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance. Location: Remote with intermittent travel for fundraising, campaigns, and legislative advocacy (approximately once a month)

Job Overview: The Executive Director serves as the organization's visionary and strategic leader and lead spokesperson. Working under the general direction of the Gen-Z for Change Board and reporting to the Board Chair, the Executive Director connects Gen-Z for Change to the movement ecosystem, partnering and building strong relationships with groups across issue areas, age, and geography. They oversee the 18 person staff and develop both short and long term goals to nurture and scale the organization. Additionally, they are responsible for Gen-Z for Change’s fundraising efforts (in partnership with team members, trusted allies, and the Gen-Z for Change Board). The Executive Director serves as the leader of both the (c)(3) and (c)(4).

About Us: Gen-Z for Change is a collective of Gen-Z organizers that leverages the power of social media, code, and creators to educate our generation, mobilize civic participation, and make a tangible difference on the ground. We have direct, trusted relationships with Gen-Z content creators and have a front-row seat to the misinformation and disinformation pumped into social media platforms. Gen-Z for Change has a 501(c)(4) as well as an affiliated 501(c)(3). 

Responsibilities:

Strategic leadership:

  • Set long-term goals for organizational growth and impact, particularly in areas relevant to youth empowerment, labor, reproductive justice, climate, and immigration.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of Gen-Z for Change’s social media presence and voice, ensuring that messaging is impactful and reflective of the nonprofit’s mission and values.
  • Support Gen-Z for Change’s strategy team by helping to facilitate digital strategy campaigns and communicating the team’s tools to partners, press, and donors.
  • Support the Programming and Gen-Z X El Cambio teams’ transition to long-form video and higher quality production (Gen-Z X El Cambio is a hub run by and for Gen-Z Latinos to share their perspectives and educate others on U.S. history, politics, and pop culture).
  • Serve as a leading voice for the organization, taking interviews with news outlets and developing working relationships with journalists.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, panels, and public events, serving as the face and spokesperson for the nonprofit.
  • Actively seek and secure collaborations with grassroots organizations, think tanks, creators, activists, and progressive electoral offices.

Operations and Development: 

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, managing staff and ensuring execution of projects, adherence to budgets, and alignment with mission and goals.
  • Oversee budget management and provide quarterly reports to the Board alongside Operations and Development Director.
  • Oversee the organization’s fundraising efforts alongside Gen-Z for Change’s Operations and Development Director, Deputy Executive Director, Board, and donor consultants. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors
  • Attend donor conferences
  • Improve the organization’s small-dollar donation strategy
  • Maintain strong relationships with Directors to ensure alignment across short-form video, long-form content, design, operations, campaigns, and our latino-wing Gen-Z X El Cambio.
  • Leading Gen-Z for Change’s weekly All Hands meeting and leading the Programming Department’s weekly meetings.
  • Work with Gen-Z for Change’s contracted lawyers and compliance consultants to ensure the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, including nonprofit laws, tax regulations, and employment standards.
  • Work to ensure the organization’s digital safety, privacy, and cybersecurity.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization, ensuring all programs, communications, and operations are accessible and representative of the communities the organization serves.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • 4 years of experience at a union, nonprofit organization (local, state, or national) or other relevant political or organizing group, with at least 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience working with or managing 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of fundraising, including both major donor cultivation and grassroots fundraising campaigns
  • Demonstrated success in budget management
  • Familiarity with nonprofit compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Proven experience in Gen-Z advocacy and/or social justice movements
  • Strong background in social media strategy and digital communications
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong speaking skills
  • Exceptional team leadership abilities with experience managing remote and distributed teams
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, evolving environments
