Started in 2015 as a coalition of dragon boaters advocating for the health of Flushing Bay, GoFB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a shared vision of a healthy and equitably accessible Flushing Waterways where our watershed communities feel part of a thriving collective who steward the water and each other. We accomplish our goals through grassroots organizing, community science and stewardship and free, family-friendly programming.
Position Description:
Guardians of Flushing Bay (GoFB) is seeking a Finance and Development Coordinator (the Coordinator) to join our growing staff of two. The Coordinator will work in close coordination with the Executive Director and GoFB’s bookkeeping & accounting consultants. The position will include:
- Support daily financial transactions to ensure accurate accrual-based accounting and reconcile transactions with source documents (i.e., bank statements, payroll, invoices, grant awards etc.);
- Provide accounting and financial guidance during the review of organizational records in consultation with the organization’s bookkeeper;
- Reconcile coding by funding source and financial class;
- Review financial statements and accounting transactions provided by bookkeeping consultant;
- Meet with bookkeeping consultant to review monthly transactions;
- Collaborate with ED on year-end financial closing activities;
- Identify and prioritize grant opportunities;
- Collaborate with ED to manage finance and development databases, including our donor management, grant management and financial forecasting systems;
- Collaborate with ED to develop and implement a yearly fundraising strategy;
- Collaborate with ED and Finance and Development Committee to develop and implement equity-driven financial policies and protocols;
- Review and compile materials for state and federal filings;
- Collaborate with ED to track grant budgets;
- Attend relevant industry trainings as needed to ensure the organization is up to date with industry rules and regulations;
- Other tasks on an as-needed basis.
Role Qualifications
Experience:
- At least 2 years of work experience in not-for-profit accounting, budget and financial management, or an equivalent degree;
- Deep interest or prior experience in fundraising, grant management, or other related field;
- Familiarity with Quickbooks Online or other bookkeeping software;
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills;
- Familiarity with AirTable, and Gusto a plus.
Skills:
- Ability to work independently;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Ease of working in a collaborative environment;
- Clear written and verbal communicator;
- Commitment to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks.
Languages:
- Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean or Spanish is a plus.
Compensation: This role will begin on an hourly basis at $31.57/hr for 32 hours per week with a competitive healthcare and benefits package.
Location: GoFB works remotely in NYC, with some on-site community meetings, retreats and/or staff meetings. All employees will receive a laptop and relevant software.
Desired: Resident of Queens strongly preferred.
