Vic Gutman & Associates (VGA) has over 40 years of experience assisting Omaha nonprofit organizations achieve their fundraising goals. We are currently seeking a ¾-time (1,560 hours annually) Grant Writer to join our team. The position pays $35 per hour ($54,600 annually) plus benefits.

VGA staff works as consultants, customizing our services for each nonprofit client we work with. Typical responsibilities include creating and managing grants calendars, grant and report writing, ongoing research, and client management.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years of grant writing experience. Familiarity with Omaha, NE funders is a plus. Omaha-area-based applicants are preferred, but we will consider remote for the right candidate. Following the initial six months of employment, VGA offers a hybrid work schedule with 60% of time spent working from the office and 40% working from home.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write persuasive grant applications, funding proposals, and reports
  • Develop fundraising strategies for program, operating, and capital needs
  • Develop and maintain grant calendars
  • Assist with project outcomes, objectives, and budget development as required
  • Conduct research to support program narratives
  • Conduct ongoing donor research and vet grant opportunities
  • Coordinate and lead fundraising meetings with clients
  • Establish collaborative relationships with key client contacts including the executive director, program staff, finance staff, etc.
  • Write and/or proofread annual appeals, donor emails, annual reports, and related communications
  • Develop and implement donor cultivation and stewardship plans
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Contribute to VGA Grants Team and VGA all-staff discussions
  • Uphold professional, ethical standards and client confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three years of grant writing experience
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multitask responsibilities for multiple clients
  • Basic understanding of audits, Form 990s, W9s, and other standard forms
  • Understanding of systemic racism and its impact on historically excluded populations
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience, or willingness to learn, Google and Microsoft 365 systems
  • Experience with on-line donor research and fundraising Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems a plus
  • Willingness to become Grant Professional Certified through the Grant Professionals Association a plus
  • United Way experience a plus
  • Local, State, and Federal grant writing experience a plus


  • Ninety (90) hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) annually; this increases to 120 hours after five years
