To learn more, visit us online at Job Opportunity: Under direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Housing Advocate is responsible for effectively addressing the housing needs of homeless individuals and families in San Diego County. Services provided by the Housing Advocate focus on assessing the housing needs, completing the VI-SPDAT, assisting in the identification of housing options, coordinating with landlords, and ultimately helping clients move into permanent housing. This includes working closely with community providers, establishing and maintaining productive relationships with housing programs, mediating relationships with landlords, and educating the community about the housing needs of individuals and families who are homeless. Key Job Duties: + Conducts housing assessments and continuously assesses family housing readiness. + Provides comprehensive case management on housing issues. + Maintains case records and collaborates with case management staff to ensure residents obtain needed support services to obtain permanent housing. + Identifies, contacts, and follows through with potential housing resources and leads. + Establishes new connections with real estate brokers and landlords. + Advocates and refers clients to public housing, realtors, landlords, and community-based agencies to ensure that clients obtain permanent housing. + Performs other duties as assigned. + May require some travel. Qualifications: + Minimum of Bachelor’s degree. + Must have at least 1 year experience in field of housing and/or social services. + Real Estate or Sales experience preferred. + Valid California Drivers License required, with driving record meeting insurers’ requirements. + CPR/First Aid preferred. + Ability to pass all pre-hiring qualifications (TB test, health screening, and drug screen). + Demonstrated ability to apply independent judgement in critical situations involving vulnerable populations. + Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English. Bilingual in Spanish is desired. + Must have demonstrated ability to understand and articulate best practices around housing services for at-risk individuals and families. + Must have working knowledge of regulations and rights associated with renters and landlords. + Must have demonstrated ability to build rapport and gain trust with diverse individuals. + Must have working knowledge of community resources in San Diego County. + Must have demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with community providers. + Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly, occasionally, up to 50 lbs.
