What You Do
Flamboyan’s School Partnership Coach is a resident expert in its REAL Family Engagement approach, responsible for coaching a portfolio of DC public and public charter schools. They work to ensure that effective family engagement practices are embedded within a school’s culture and practice so that DC families whose children attend partner schools feel a sense of belonging, have a strong partnership with their child’s educators, and maintain a trusting relationship with their child’s school from Pre-K through high school. The School Partnership Coach guides school teams to plan, lead, and implement effective and sustainable REAL family engagement practices. Because of their close proximity to schools and communities, their work is a frequent source of Flamboyan’s most innovative tools, resources, training, and products. Deeply committed to racial equity, the School Partnership Coach is always focused on elevating the agency and voices of people and communities most impacted by inequity. Internally, they actively contribute to Flamboyan’s coaching community of practice and share best practices to support the organization’s overall portfolio of school and district partnerships.
The School Partnership Coach, Training is responsible for leading and collaborating training efforts for schools connected with the Family Engagement Partnership as well as other schools across Washington, D.C. This role requires the ability to be a skillful storyteller who can combine Flamboyan’s signature training content and their own facilitation expertise to build connections with training participants.
Responsibilities
Coaching & Advising
- Collaborate with Managing Director of School and District Partnerships and other program team members to determine strategy and focus for coaching approach to specifically meet the secondary school context and adjust practice to ensure schools sustain REAL Family Engagement.
- Provide regular, in-person coaching for up to 6 secondary school-based Family Engagement Leadership Teams (FELTs) to plan, lead and manage toward sustainable partnership outcomes for students and families. Throughout the course of the partnership, support schools’ as they transition to internally sustaining equity-driven family engagement without Flamboyan’s regular coaching practices.
- Support school leader and FELT in building staff capacity to accelerate student learning through effective relationships, partnerships, and ongoing communication between educators and families.
- Actively lift up the voices of marginalized people and communities within coaching practice, especially students, challenging FELTs, school leaders, school staff, and ourselves to explore unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable perspectives on race and equity.
- Support school teams in setting clear goals and action plans and consistently analyze family listening, school data, and program outcomes to determine areas of strength and growth to drive equity in their schools.
- Build teacher and leader capacity to set the vision, motivate staff, remove barriers, manage program implementation, and support quality equity-centered family engagement strategies.
- Facilitate school-based trainings for schools in your coaching portfolio. Consistently collect feedback about the trainings and make adjustments to future trainings. Co-develop with school teams supplemental trainings to support school staff.
- Develop expertise in family engagement strategies supported at Flamboyan’s partner schools (i.e., Academic Parent-Teacher Teams, Student Led Conferences and Home Visits)
Training
- In partnership with the MD, School and District Partnerships create and maintain a yearly training calendar that is aligned with the Family Engagement Partnership scope and sequence.
- Facilitate trainings for Flamboyan partners in Washington, DC alongside Flamboyan staff and REAL Family Engagement trainers
- Design and facilitate high-quality, equity-centered learning opportunities for educators aligned with Flamboyan’s research-based beliefs around effective educator-family partnerships
- Develop additional trainings to support advanced best practices around Bias, Mindset, and Beliefs as well as Building Strong Relationships to allow for educators to continue to grow their practice.
- In partnership with the Director, Instructional Design, provide feedback on Flamboyan’s products to help ensure alignment of content to coaching practices.
- Create and maintain new signature trainings, including trainings around Academic Partnering best practices that can be turnkeyed to school-based staff
- Oversee the implementation of a school-based training model to help expose non-Family Engagement Partnership schools to baseline effective family engagement practices.
- Develop and maintain strong facilitation skills, both in-person and virtual, to ensure high-quality content delivery regardless of training medium
- In partnership with the Manager, FEP Systems + Data, analyze training data to identify trends and share feedback with colleagues across the Program team.
Project Management
- Synthesize insights from schools and internal professional learning to develop tools, coaching strategies, and innovative ideas for the organization that improve our ability to coach towards effective family engagement
- Serve as Flamboyan’s lead point of contact with school leaders and act as a conduit for Flamboyan communication and guidance about operations, evaluation, and program improvements for partner schools
- As needed, liaise with staff at DC Public Schools and/or Charter Management Organizations across DC;
- Other duties as assigned, including temporary coaching coverage as needed.
Relationship Building
- Maintain strong relationships with external partners to maximize Flamboyan’s impact
- Represent Flamboyan at conferences, events, networking opportunities, and other events, as needed, in support of deepening and sustaining relationships.
- Amplify stories of best practice to External Affairs for storytelling opportunities
Organizational Stewardship
- Serve as an ambassador for Flamboyan’s organizational brand generally and our family engagement work specifically locally and nationally

Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- School-based experience required, with education experience in Washington, DC preferred
- Teacher leadership, instructional coaching, or other leadership preferred
- Preference will be given to those who have familiarity with Flamboyan’s Family Engagement Partnership and/or who have served on school-based Family Engagement Leadership Teams (FELT)
- Bachelor’s degree required
Flamboyan Foundation is an in-person workplace. All staff work out of its DC office located at 1730 Massachusetts Avenue, Washington, DC | We are currently in the office four days per week with one mid-week, org-wide work from home day on Wednesdays | All staff must be fully vaccinated and boosted as a condition of employment unless given an approved exemption by Flamboyan for a medical or religious reason.
