Summary of Position
It’s Time Texas seeks a dynamic Vice President (VP) of Communications to manage the organization’s communications, marketing, and brand strategy to meet the needs of organization supporters, health and social services professionals, community health champions, and people with lived experience with health disparities.

The VP of Communications must be a thoughtful and capable leader who has the vision, skills, experience, and patience to move communications functions from reactive to proactive. Key responsibilities include:
– developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies, including a marketing plan with a messaging matrix for key influencers and community leaders

– promoting and protecting the organization’s brand and reputation

– leading organizational messaging

– managing the marketing team

– using data and storytelling to build awareness of It’s Time Texas and its work

– taking responsibility for It’s Time Texas’ varied communications products and services (website, e-news/online communications, newsletters, annual reports, and print publications); media and public relations; and marketing.

Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Communications supervises a team of up to 5 full-time staff and numerous contractors/vendors (e.g., graphic designers, printers, photographers, videographers, etc.). Though the role’s primary focus is external communications, it also encompasses executive communications and/or internal communications efforts as needed.

In their first year, the VP of Communications will lead It’s Time Texas through exploring a rebranding initiative, revamping the overall communications strategy (including the establishment of success metrics), and leading a strategic website redesign.
 

Duties and Responsibilities
 

Communications Strategy, Vision and Leadership

• Effectively drive the strategy for communicating the mission and activities of It’s Time Texas to reach new audiences, increase donor engagement, and promote program and event participation.

• Ensure that all communications reflect the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

• Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance brand identity.

• Create a marketing/public relations strategy that will allow It’s Time Texas’ leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with target audiences.

• Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization and plan/adapt accordingly.

• Work with leadership and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them
 

Communications Operations

• Support and lead the development of formalized processes that build organizational capacity.

• Oversee development of all It’s Time Texas print communications (e.g., annual report, impact reports, marketing collateral and materials) and electronic communications (e.g., website, and new media).

• Use data and research to make decisions and determine the effectiveness of each approach.

• Prioritize media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed

• Engage, cultivate, and manage press relationships and partnerships to ensure appropriate coverage/promotion of programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects

• Oversee day-to-day activities, including budgeting, planning and staff development.
 

Team Development/Management

• Manage the marketing and communications team to support the development and execution of communications strategy.

• Mentor and develop staff using a consistently supportive and collaborative approach.

• Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a

commitment to quality.

• Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
 

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field is required. Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications, marketing or related roles; including 5 years in a senior management role. Experience working with a health-focused organization is a plus.

Salary and Benefits
It’s Time Texas is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to equity and transparency in its hiring practices. The base salary for this position is $100,000 with opportunity for salary increase based on experience and qualifications. This position is non-exempt.

Work Location
