Description

ZRG Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with The Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts LLC (JCSM), a subsidiary of South Coastal Counties Legal Services (SCCLS) in their search for a Supervising Attorney for the housing unit, focused on ensuring access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

Reporting to the Interim Program Director, the Unit Supervising Attorney will lead a robust and dynamic legal services housing unit that is committed to ensuring that individuals and families throughout southeast Massachusetts have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. The Supervising Attorney will supervise a team of dedicated staff, maintain a small, strategic caseload, and develop and manage strategic initiatives across the unit.

The housing unit furthers its mission through the provision of high-quality direct representation to individuals in summary process (eviction) proceedings, challenges to public and subsidized housing denials, and termination of housing benefits matters. The unit also represents individuals by affirmatively filing legal actions to ensure safe and habitable housing, to remediate discriminatory conduct, and to recover terminated subsidies. In addition to direct representation, the housing unit engages in appellate advocacy, community outreach and education, and staffs the Lawyer for the Day Program in the MetroSouth Housing Court.

JCSM seeks a Supervising Attorney committed to seeking racial and economic justice for low-income communities through the provision of high-quality client centered legal representation. This is an excellent opportunity to join an organization of supportive, creative colleagues who work hard to provide life-changing legal representation for the most vulnerable persons in our communities.

JCSM, is a subsidiary of SCCLS, the principal provider of free, civil legal aid to low-income residents of Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. SCCLS's core mission is to achieve justice for eligible clients through community-based advocacy. The organization prioritizes legal services in housing, public benefits, elder law, domestic relations, employment, education, immigration, and consumer matters. JCSM was organized in 2011 as a subsidiary of SCCLS and complements SCCLS's efforts in providing access to critical legal support for its most vulnerable communities. JCSM serves individuals at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, along with victims of crime and individuals over the age of 60 without financial eligibility requirements. It is the largest of the SCCLS offices with 38 staff members.

The successful candidate must have a J.D. and be admitted to practice law in Massachusetts or eligible for admission in addition to having six years of legal practice. South Coastal Counties Legal Services will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to SCCLS, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and résumé. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of South Coastal Counties Legal Services and the responsibilities and qualifications specified in the position prospectus.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000, with yearly standard increases, increases based on experience, and a multi-lingual annual increment for demonstrated language skills. South Coastal Counties Legal Services offers a competitive total compensation package, including generous leave, robust benefits including health and dental, flexible spending options, student loan forgiveness, 403(b) retirement plan, and an added salary increment for demonstrated multi-lingual skills.

If you require reasonable accommodation in completing this application, interviewing, or participating in the selection process, please contact Millie Taylor at millietaylor@aspenleadershipgroup.com.
