Summary

The Laura Taber Barbour Air Safety Foundation (LTBASF) through recognition of its annual award and scholarship and mentoring programs is dedicated to advancing aviation safety, education, research, and innovation. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Fundraising Coordinator to join our team. This role is essential in driving our fundraising efforts to support our mission and initiatives.

Description

The Laura Taber Barbour Air Safety Award has been a proud contributor to global aviation since 1956.  https://LTBAward.org   And for nearly 70 years it has been the most prestigious aviation safety award in the world. The Laura Taber Barbour Air Safety Foundation (LTBASF) established its scholarship fund in 2019.

Our board of directors, award committee and scholarship committee are all one hundred percent volunteer based. These are leading experts in the field of aviation coming from the NTSB, ICAO, the  FAA and leading experts from sectors all across aviation along with members of the Barbour family, coming together and investing their time and energy to make a difference.

We are hoping to find a retired or semi-retired fundraising professional with a history of successful experience and a passion for aviation. We are holding a position on our Board of Directors for the person we select to join us. We need a special someone to help us plan and structure a successful fundraising strategy and carry it forward into the future.  We typically hold online BoD meetings every 3 months and regularly dedicate our time as needed.

We’re at a crossroads in our industry. Air travel is expected to double in the next 20 years  And as travel doubles, we’re projected to lose between four and five thousand pilots to mandatory retirement.  The numbers of those retiring far outpaces new pilots coming in to the field. Globally, we need 300,000 pilots in the next ten years.
And the average age for a certified aircraft technician is 54 with 40% of the workforce over the age of 60. We have a projected deficit of 25,000 aircraft technicians by 2028.

These are critical issues needing immediate attention. And this doesn’t only affect air travel but also the global delivery of goods and services. If these predictions hold true, such shortages and cancellations will surely cripple the industry and in so doing, may well cripple our economy.

Encouraging and supporting the brightest minds pursuing careers in aviation is a big part of the solution. One hundred percent of the monies donated to the Laura Taber Barbour Scholarship Fund are applied directly to scholarships for our most promising and deserving aviation students at a dozen different colleges and universities across the country. And we intend to grow our program significantly.

This is a non-paying volunteer based position. The benefits to your joining us will be in participating on our boaed of directors and in the knowledge that you’ll be positively impacting the lives of those who will be holding high level safety and administrative roles in aviation, future pilots, aviation mechanics and engineers. What we do today will have lasting impacts across the aviation spectrum and in the process, positively affect travel, transport and business areas of aviation and our country and world as a whole.

Please don't hesitate to call or email me with any questions you may have.

We greatly appreciate your time and consideration.

Be well,

Philip Barbour
