Spur seeks a dynamic, relationship-driven leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This role provides strategic, financial & organizational leadership while advancing Spur’s mission to Inspire Effective Philanthropy. The ED leads fundraising & donor engagement, partners closely with the Board & stakeholders, guides programs and grantmaking & mentors a high-performing staff. Title:                            Executive Director
Position Type:           Full-time, exempt / Salaried
Compensation:         $120,000-$180,000 plus benefits
Reports to:                Board of Directors

 

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for advancing Spur’s mission and strategic goals by leading donor development, community partnerships, program strategy, fiscal management, and staff leadership. The ED serves as a trusted relationship builder, partnering with the Board of Directors, donors, and nonprofit leaders to elevate local philanthropy and inspire effective philanthropy.

Success in this role is driven primarily by:

  • The ability to cultivate and steward long-term relationships with nonprofit leaders and donors.
  • A strong and credible community presence

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic and annual plans
  • Communicate transparently with the Board on progress toward goals and key metrics
  • Serve as a strong partner to the Board and committees
  • Provide strategic guidance and serve as a trusted advisor to nonprofit organizations
     

Fund & Donor Development

  • Lead fundraising strategy and execution to secure annual and multi-year financial support
  • Engage and steward high-capacity donors and fund holders
  • Lead donor cultivation strategies, relationship management, and stewardship systems
  • Represent Spur at donor events, convenings, and targeted outreach

Community Relations & Local Knowledge

  • Build and maintain positive community relationships grounded in understanding of local culture, values, challenges, and opportunities in the Wood River Valley
  • Represent Spur publicly through speaking engagements and partnerships
  • Support collaborative initiatives that benefit the broader philanthropic ecosystem

Staff Leadership

  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate staff to achieve mission impact
  • Foster a collaborative and mission-aligned workplace culture

Fiscal & Program Management

  • Develop and monitor the annual operating budget
  • Oversee grantmaking, nonprofit services, and educational programs aligned with mission and donor expectations
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulatory requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES
Required

  • Proven leadership skills, preferably in the nonprofit sector

Outstanding communication and relationship-building ability

  • Demonstrated fundraising and donor stewardship success, including cultivating major gifts
  • Financial and budget management experience
  • Strong integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred

  • Strong ties to, or demonstrated understanding of, the Wood River Valley
  • Experience engaging high-capacity donors and community philanthropists
  • Experience leading or working in a community foundation

RESIDENCY EXPECTATION
Residency in or relocation to the Wood River Valley within an agreed-upon timeframe is expected to sustain strong community relationships
