Overview
Threshold Choir (TC) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization of chapters whose mission is singing for people at the thresholds of life. Having grown from a handful of groups in California 25 years ago, it is now a network of almost 200 active chapters across the U.S.A., Canada, and other countries. Threshold Choir seeks an Executive Director who is both mission-driven and an effective nonprofit manager.
Founded in 2000 and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, Threshold Choir is unique in its purpose and repertoire. TC members sing at bedsides in groups of two to four, offering gentle songs acapella, in blended harmony for those on the thresholds of life in hospice and assisted living facilities, hospitals and homes. Chapters vary in size, from less than ten to fifty or more, yet all follow the policies and guidance of the organization. TC has more than 2,700 members, and in the words of its founder Kate Munger, Threshold Choir singing is “kindness made audible.” Each year TC offers songs of comfort to over 23,000 people, their families and caregivers.
Threshold Choir has three half-time, remote positions, including the Executive Director (ED), a Member and Chapter Development Director (MCD) and an Office Manager. While ultimately responsible for leading the entire organization, the ED’s primary responsibilities are executive, and include, but are not limited to, a focus on legal requirements, organizational operations, strategic initiatives, financial stability, communications, and fundraising. The MCD and Office Manager report to the ED, and the ED reports to the TC Board of Directors.
Threshold Choir is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. It has no religious affiliation, and its services are offered free of charge.
