Resident Assistant (Part-Time, Live-In)
Villa International | Atlanta, Georgia
Villa International is a 33-room residence founded in 1967 to provide a welcoming “home away from home” for international guests in Atlanta. Located next to Emory University, Villa primarily serves international researchers and professionals affiliated with the CDC, Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health, and other global health institutions. To date, we have welcomed more than 28,000 guests from 179 countries.
We are seeking a Resident Assistant (RA) to live onsite and help foster a warm, safe, and supportive community for our international residents. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys hospitality, cross-cultural engagement, and community living.
About the Role
The Resident Assistant is an integral member of the Villa team and reports to the Executive Director. The RA serves as a friendly point of contact for guests during evenings and weekends—helping residents feel at home while also ensuring community guidelines are followed.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and check in guests during evening and weekend hours, including collecting rent and giving brief tours. We have an average of 1-5 checkins per week.
- Serve on an on-call rotation (every other week) to provide hospitality support and respond to guest needs
- Assist with occasional programs such as welcome dinners, local outings, and volunteer workdays
- Answer basic questions about transportation, the neighborhood, and local resources
- Conduct nightly security checks of the building
- Serve as an emergency contact for guests during nights and weekends
- Assist with minor facility issues as needed and coordinate emergency response when required
- Participate in a weekly one-hour staff meeting and occasional holiday coverage
Schedule
- On-call every other week, including weekends
- Weekdays: 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM
- Weekends: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 8:00 AM
- While on call, the RA is not required to be on-site, but must be reachable and able to return to Villa within 30 minutes. We also know when guests will be arriving to check in, so there is no need to wait around Villa or sit behind a desk.
Compensation
This position is unpaid but includes a private one-bedroom apartment with a screened-in porch, provided at no cost.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a warm, outgoing, and responsible demeanor
- Is comfortable living onsite and being on call during nights and weekends
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and enjoys working with international guests
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Can manage multiple responsibilities calmly and professionally
- Has basic computer and clerical skills
- Is able to enforce policies and respond appropriately in emergencies
- Has 3–5 years of professional experience and a college degree
- Experience or coursework in intercultural communication, student affairs, counseling, or related fields is a plus
