Position Purpose

The Volunteer Project Specialist will develop and implement affiliate-wide strategies for engagement of volunteers outside of traditional build days and ReStore shifts. This role will have programmatic oversight of key initiatives such as Rock the Block, Playhouse Build, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), as well as a concentration on strengthening youth and young adult engagement (College and high school Campus Chapters, Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) and Collegiate Challenge). He/She will also execute volunteer appreciation activities throughout the year, in collaboration with the Volunteer Services team.

Essential Functions

  • Create meaningful opportunities across the affiliate for engaging volunteers outside of construction and ReStores.
  • Work as a liaison to the fundraising efforts and engagement through youth and young adult groups, such as HYP.
  • Manage volunteer leadership roles for young adults including – recruitment, selection, training, and reporting.
  • Manage and coordinate special events for program responsibilities that enhance volunteer experience.
  • Implement recognition programs to acknowledge and celebrate volunteers’ contributions. Regularly communicate with volunteers to express appreciation and provide updates on Habitat Charlotte Region activities.
  • Maintain requirements for partnership programs with Habitat for Humanity International.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Self-motivated with ability to work as part of a group or individually
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Public speaking experience preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers in a community service setting
  • Computer skills, including database management (Microsoft Office and Salesforce preferred)

Work Environment

This position requires working primarily indoors in an office setting, and driving between locations within the service area in all types of weather.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in office setting for multiple hours
  • Work flexible hours, primarily Tues-Sat, including some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to stand and walk construction job sites and ReStores
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. unassisted
