JOB SUMMARY:

Public Rights Project (PRP) is a public interest legal nonprofit, headquartered in Oakland, with a remote team based throughout the United States. Our mission is to close the gap between the promise of our laws and the lived reality of our most marginalized communities. Since 2017, we have worked hand in hand with local, state and tribal governments across the U.S. to equitably enforce laws that protect people's civil and human rights. We support state and local governments, including Attorneys General, District Attorneys, and City Attorneys' Offices with litigation, training and fellowships, convenings and connections with community partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

General Operations and Systems Development

  • Design, Manage, and Optimize Systems: Develop and continuously improve systems to increase efficiency, strengthen organizational culture, and ensure seamless operations across our remote workforce.

  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Create, update, and enforce SOPs for organizational processes to promote consistency, efficiency, and adherence to best practices.

  • Project Management Support: Champion project management best practices across the organization by implementing and managing tools and software, ensuring teams are equipped to meet their goals.

  • Training and Development: Identify organizational training needs, develop and deliver training programs, and conduct workshops to enhance staff proficiency in using organization-wide systems and project management tools.

  • IT Support Oversight: Oversee IT support services, ensuring staff receive timely assistance with technical issues and providing training on the effective use of IT systems and data management best practices.

  • Policy Development: Collaborate with the Leadership Team to propose, update, and implement organization-wide policies as needed to adapt to evolving operational needs.

  • Resource Management: Ensure that all staff have the necessary resources, tools, and support to perform their work effectively.

  • Operational Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary contact for operations-related inquiries, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.

 

Organization Calendar and Event Coordination

  • Master Calendar Management: Maintain the organization’s master calendar, coordinating key events, deadlines, and annual cycles, including strategic planning, budgeting, program events, and feedback cycles.

  • Meeting Facilitation: Facilitate weekly all-staff meetings, ensuring efficient communication and coordination across the organization, and provide logistical support for organization-wide meetings and events.

  • Event Logistics: Oversee the scheduling and logistics for key organizational meetings, retreats, and events throughout the year, ensuring all aspects are executed smoothly.

  • Operational Planning: Coordinate the planning and execution of the operations team's annual cycles, including operational planning, renewals, feedback cycles, and events.

People Operations

  • HR Program Administration: In coordination with the People Team, administer HR programs, including employee onboarding, offboarding, and recognition programs, while continuously improving program effectiveness and efficiency.

  • HR Support and Guidance: Support the People Team by providing guidance to employees on HR policies, procedures, and systems, ensuring staff have the information they need to succeed.

  • Culture and Professional Development: Collaborate with the People Team to plan and deliver initiatives that build team culture and support professional development, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Team Experience Design: Support staff culture and community building through the creative design and execution of team experiences, including meetings, retreats, and other events.

  • Talent Management: Assist with recruitment, evaluation, and talent retention efforts in collaboration with other members of the People Team to ensure we attract and retain top talent.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in operations management, or a related field 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and vendors, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

  • Skilled in written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices, particularly in managing multi-faceted projects across various departments.

  • Proficiency in using and managing various IT systems, project management tools, CRM systems, and cloud-based collaboration platforms. 

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage ambiguity, and remain flexible in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to promote inclusivity and equity within the organization.

  • Familiarity with the legal field, advocacy work, and social justice issues, especially in areas related to voting rights, election protection, and reproductive justice.

  • A belief in the power of state and local government to make positive change in the world

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to Director of Operations

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires sitting, talking and listening for up to 8 hours per day. Certain situations may require lifting items up to 20 pounds. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Fully remote organization and team. This role may require travel a few times a year to PRP events or meetings. We currently have remote staff in Oakland, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Portland (Oregon), and Washington, DC, as well as other cities.

 

COMPENSATION

The determined salary range for this role is set at $90,000 – $100,000.
