Opportunity Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director and working in close collaboration with Communications and Management Team, this Consultant will help our organization expand our donor base through individual giving and foundation support. This position will develop content to articulate TxILC’s mission, goals and accomplishments. This position is ideal for a creative and strategic development professional who is excited by the challenge of helping a young nonprofit grow its philanthropic base from the ground up. The anticipated level of effort for this contract position is between 2 to 4 days a week or between 16 and 30 hours per week.

Formed in 2023 as a 501(c)(3), the Texas Immigration Law Council (TxILC) is a nonpartisan, statewide immigration legal resource and policy organization working to protect and promote the rights of immigrants and refugees of all nationalities in Texas. We recognize and celebrate the vital contributions that immigrants make to our state. Through diverse perspectives and collaborative efforts, we center directly impacted voices to lead strategies that drive sustainable change for immigrant communities.
Location & Travel Demands
This is a 6-month contract-based position that can be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement fundraising material focused on individuals (grassroots and cultivating relationships with individuals) and foundations that are aligned with TxILC’s mission and values.
- Work closely with the communications team to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated outreach across platforms.
- Develop compelling case statements and content for a diverse set of philanthropic partners.
- Assist with grant reports, grant applications, and content for donor engagement and cultivation.
- Coach or advise TxILC staff and board members on donor engagement and outreach.
- Help track and synthesize the organization’s programmatic work to develop compelling reports, impact summaries, and other materials to share with current and prospective funders.
Qualifications
The Contractor should have at least 4+ years of relevant experience covering areas such as development, donor and foundation fundraising, and constituent communications. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages to the right audience through the best distribution channels is critical.
- Experience developing and implementing development strategies.
- Proven success designing and executing fundraising strategies, especially in the early stages of donor base building.
- Exceptional writing, communication, and storytelling skills.
- Familiarity with donor management tools.
- Entrepreneurial and self-directed, with a high level of organization and follow-through.
- Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively in a small, growing team.
- Experience working with or in immigrant justice, civil rights, or social justice organizations.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with TxILC’s constituent groups including clients, cohort members, staff, volunteers, donors, board members, and other supporters.
