Summary
Description
Are you a creative, visually driven communicator who wants to do more than just execute tasks — you want your work to mean something? Do you thrive on a small, high-performing team where your designs get seen, your ideas get heard, and your creativity actually moves the needle? If so, we’d love to talk.
Charitable nonprofits improve our lives, add vitality to our communities, contribute to our local and national economies, and enhance the health of our democracy. The National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) is the largest network of nonprofits in North America — connecting, championing, and informing organizations across the country to score big wins for nonprofits and the communities they serve.
NCN is seeking a dynamic, creative, and detail-oriented Communications Specialist to provide hands-on digital, design, and web communications support across the organization. You’ll create graphics and communications assets, maintain and build webpages, support social and digital communications, and help bring major organizational initiatives to life visually — including a significant role in Transformation 2035 and creative support for Nonprofits Get It Done, reports, social media, and communications needs across NCN.
This isn’t a role where your work gets buried in a queue. You’ll be a core creative voice on a lean, high-impact team — designing work that reaches tens of thousands of nonprofits nationwide, with a front-row seat to a major national movement as it launches. If you’re ready to do the best creative work of your career and actually see it matter, let’s talk.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and produce visual assets — including graphics, one-pagers, toolkits, presentations, reports, and social media content — aligned with NCN brand guidelines, and manage incoming creative requests through Asana
- Build and maintain NCN website content — developing new webpages and landing pages, uploading and formatting resources and announcements, updating graphics and calls to action, and conducting quality assurance
- Drive creative and digital production for Transformation 2035 and Nonprofits Get It Done — delivering campaign graphics, social media assets, web content, and compelling visual storytelling across major organizational initiatives and communications rollouts
- Support day-to-day digital communications — including social media scheduling and publishing, member campaigns with the Senior Communications Specialist, digital analytics, and brand consistency in partnership with the Communications Coordinator
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience in communications, graphic design, digital content, and video production is required
- Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design tools; experience with video production and editing for social media posts, PSAs, and other media uses is strongly preferred
- Experience with Drupal, WordPress, or other CMS platforms for developing and maintaining website content
- Familiarity with Asana or comparable project management tools; experience with Meltwater or other media monitoring/CRM platforms is a plus
- Degree in communications, design, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted
Desired Attributes
- You take ownership of your work — you bring ideas, spot what needs to be done, and do it without waiting to be asked
- You do your best work when things are moving fast and the stakes are real
- You genuinely care about nonprofits and the people they serve — this isn’t just a job to you
- You plant roots — you’re looking for a place to grow, not just your next short stop
