About the Job:
The Director of Finance is responsible for data gathering and reporting functions to create budgets, and in preparation for audits. General responsibilities include overseeing the government contracts including the fiscal reporting, support for monthly close, implementing and maintaining financial controls, addressing audit requests, and financial supports for operations. The Director of Finance serves as part of the Leadership Team (LT), which assists in providing strategic and day-to-day direction for the organization. This position is located at our main location in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. Salary range starts at: $84,000 DOQ

Key Job Responsibilities:
Finance

  • Executes the annual financial planning process for operations, working closely with Chief Officers, directors, and managers to develop budgets
  • Executes tasks related to the monthly close, accounting reports, journal entries, bank deposits, monitors bank accounts and transfers, credit card reconciliation, accruals, manages accounts payable function, insurance policy renewals, revenue recognition, and cost center reviews with leadership
  • Oversees daily accounting functions performed internally and/or externally including tasks performed by third party providers
  • Provide payroll allocations and review payroll reports, this supports internal controls
  • Manages annual and periodic audits including the Uniform Guidance Audit (UG)
  • Updates and Implements policies and procedures that may impact finances
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify financial shortfalls, works with directors toward a balanced budget, and develops controls where appropriate
  • Participates in forecasting/mitigating risks through continuous review of policy and procedures
  • Supports the research and implementation of new technology systems that create efficiencies and user-friendly experiences
  • Lead special projects as assigned by Chief Officers
  • Provide financial and accounting expertise as it relates to new and major projects
  • Assists in providing coverage for staff who are absent on the FICO team when necessary; Partners with CFO and Senior Director of Impact in assigning tasks to others as needed

Contract Management and Compliance

  • Manages our portfolio of contracts with city, state, county and federal entities to ensure contract compliance, programmatic renewal and reports, budget submission, and budget amendment(s); Establishes and maintains relationships with point of contact for each funder; Ensures complete files on all contracts/grants
  • Provides direct supervision to a team of Contracts Managers, helping them to grow as professionals in their role; Supports staff with all fiscal aspects of all government contracts, discusses/reviews budgets, vouchers, and reporting requirements
  • Responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of a diverse team
  • Provides coverage for staff who are absent or assigns to others when necessary
  • Works with program directors in the process of submitting all monthly, quarterly, and annual programmatic reports to assigned government funders and supports the development team private funder requirements
  • Evaluates new opportunities when aligns with mission and strategic growth plan

Qualifications:
Education:

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Healthcare Administration preferred 

Experience:

  • More than three (3) years of billing and claims submission, collections, and authorization experience required
  • Experience and/or certification in Medicaid billing and billing software preferred
  • Ability to utilize medical billing software and financial ledgers
  • Experience working with government contracts in a non-profit environment a plus

Skills/Traits:

  • High attention to detail and results-oriented approach to work
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and Microsoft software applications, specifically Excel
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely, read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction (in person, in writing, or on the phone) with insurance companies, providers and other staff
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities, projects, and deadlines concurrently

Other requirements:

  • Access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation. If using car for transportation, must have valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance
