About Covenant House Greater Washington
For 30 years, Covenant House Greater Washington (CHGW) has been the region's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth ages 18–24 who are experiencing homelessness, disconnection, and exploitation. CHGW provides a safe haven and comprehensive wraparound services including housing, workforce readiness, job placement, and drop-in services. Our mission is to empower, safeguard, and serve youth experiencing homelessness, disconnection, and exploitation in the Greater Washington region. We create tailored solutions for each young person that goes beyond short-term housing and support. Our approach equips youth with the resources they need to overcome common obstacles and barriers. Aside from housing, youth receive workforce readiness, job/career placement, post-secondary support, case management, mental health support, drop-in services, and more.
CHGW is an affiliate of the Covenant House International (CHI) federation, the largest primarily privately funded charity in North and Central America providing immediate and long-term support for young people facing homelessness and survivors of trafficking. Since its founding in 1972, CHI has supported more than 1.5 million youth.
As part of the established Covenant House network, CHGW benefits from a proven model with more than 50 years of impact across over 30 cities in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. In FY25, the network reached more than 63,000 young people across five countries—demonstrating both the scale of the need and the power of the mission.
Our mission is to empower, safeguard and serve youth experiencing homelessness, disconnection, and exploitation in the Greater Washington region. The wrap-around supportive services provided to opportunity youth include housing, workforce readiness, job placement, and drop-in services.
