Summary
Description

Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with NewFest in the search for a Director of Development.
Following the launch of a new strategic plan, NewFest seeks a visionary Director of Development who will drive strategy and execution for all fundraising initiatives in this next phase of organizational growth. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving on the senior leadership team, the Director will oversee all aspects of contributed revenue — individual, corporate, foundation, and government — and help build the infrastructure needed to support NewFest's 40th Anniversary Campaign in 2028. With contributed income now representing more than 60% of NewFest's $2.3M annual budget, including a robust corporate funding base that accounts for over 50% of contributed revenue, the Director will focus on growing individual and institutional giving while retaining and upgrading corporate partners.
The Director will oversee a growing development team, including a Donor Engagement Associate and Development Coordinator, and collaborate across departments to embed a culture of philanthropy that supports artistic excellence, equity, and long-term sustainability. They will be a builder—someone who is comfortable extracting institutional knowledge, systematizing strategy, and operating with both confidence and humility. Success will be measured not only by revenue outcomes, but also by strengthened systems, clearer pipelines, deeper board engagement, and increased strategic capacity for the Executive Director.
Founded in 1988, NewFest is the largest queer film festival in the United States, and the largest convener of LGBTQ+ audiences in New York City. NewFest champions LGBTQ+ stories and storytellers through film and media, creating an inclusive and joyful space where community gathers, industry connects, and creative expression thrives. Harnessing the power of visibility and authentic representation, we meet the moment by sparking dialogue, fostering belonging, and driving meaningful social impact.
NewFest works with studios, networks, and streamers to present advance screenings of LGBTQ+ content, often accompanied by social events. Through the years, they have presented the world theatrical premier of Paris is Burning, presented New York premieres of Hedwig & the Angry Inch, Bottoms, Boy Erased, and High Art, and presented Advanced Screenings of Carol, Call Me By Your Name, Love, Simon, Red, White & Royal Blue, and Rocketman, along with many others.
In addition, NewFest currently has three artist development programs, and partners with the NYC Department of Education on a screening series for high school students. Through screenings and talkbacks with filmmakers, NewFest's Youth Programs create visibility for marginalized and underrepresented communities, foster allyship and self-empowerment, and encourage the next generation of queer storytellers.
At least seven years of progressive fundraising experience, ideally within the arts or LGBTQ+ advocacy, is required for this position. NewFest will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to NewFest, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and résumé. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of NewFest and the responsibilities and qualifications specified in the position prospectus.
The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $140,000. NewFest offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, company contributions to an HSA account, and generous paid time off. The Director will also receive executive coaching for the first three months of their tenure via CKF Consulting.
