Description
The Staff Accountant will work under the direct supervision of the Controller and work in close collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer to track and monitor department and grant budgets, administer the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions for the organization, help monitor and ensure contract compliance, manage the credit card reconciliation process and provide support during the audit processes. The Staff Accountant will assist in managing and maintaining accounting ledgers and reporting
systems, ensuring accuracy and full compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Additional duties include:
· Assist in maintaining accounting policies, internal controls, and asset safeguards.
· Assist in managing monthly, quarterly, and annual close, communicating, and maintaining deadlines.
· Assist in coordinating the annual financial audit, which includes work paper preparation, liaison with auditors, and understanding of programmatic and economic requirements of government programs.
· Partners with the Controller to improve existing processes and systems.
· Oversee financial aspects of grants, subgrants, and independent contractor agreements, ensuring expenditures align with contract terms and regulatory requirements. Prepare reports and collaborate with teams to resolve issues.
· Administer accounts payable Systems including Bill.com; ACH payments and checks.
· Works with Controller and Chief Financial Officer in preparing general ledger support and backup documentation for annual audits.
· Collaborates with Controller and Office Manager to set up and maintain Fixed Assets.
· Works with Chief Financial Officer, Controller and Development team to create MOUs for subcontractors.
· Work with Controller and Development team to create grant budgets and reporting back to funders.
· Create budget vs actual reports for programs monthly. Analyze, review and reconcile general ledger accounts by program.
· Work with Chief Financial Officer and Controller to create credit card policies; monitor credit card activity; timely reconciliations; entering data into QuickBooks and/or Blackbaud’s the Financial Edge.
· Work with Chief Financial Officer and Controller to assist in creating and maintaining annual budgets by program and for the overall agency.
· Work with Controller to create a system to accurately and efficiently track grants in Financial Edge
Experience and skills
· Three to five years of work experience in accounting or finance in a medium size nonprofit organization. Prior work on a legal service organization a plus.
· Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance is highly desirable.
· Advanced proficiency in accounting and reporting software including QuickBooks, The Financial Edge and Raisers Edge, as well as Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
· Experience operating in a fast-paced environment with constant changes and tight deadlines.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, this position worked full time from our Los Angeles office. However, since the pandemic, this position is hybrid and includes work from home and work from the office to complete administrative tasks. This position may be asked to return to work in the office at any time and at the employer’s discretion.

Salary Range
This is an exempt position with a target starting salary range of $68,000 – $72,000 and is set commensurate with experience.
