Position Overview

The Philadelphia Ethical Society is seeking a dedicated and inspiring Leader to provide spiritual and community leadership in alignment with the values and goals of ethical culture. This part-time position requires a commitment to the Society's affairs, its members, and the broader Ethical Culture. Ethical Culture is a Humanist religion to some, and a philosophy to others, centered on ethics, not theology, whose mission is to encourage respect for the inherent worth of every person, strive to preserve the natural world, and create a more humane society.

Key Responsibilities:

1. General Leadership: The Leader will devote time to the Society's business and affairs and engage with the broader community to promote liberal humanistic and religious values.

2. Weekly Sunday Services: The Leader will coordinate with an Education Committee to provide weekly Sunday services and seasonal celebrations. They will personally deliver an address as part of these services twice per month.

3. Service to Members: The Leader will provide pastoral care to members and collaborate with Society committees to organize rites of passage and seasonal services.

4. Relationship to the Board and Committees: The Leader will work with the Board of Directors and alongside of society committees on matters of spiritual and community leadership.

5. American Ethical Union Engagement: The Leader will actively participate in the American Ethical Union and engage with Humanists International.

Qualifications:

– Strong leadership and communication skills.

– Ability to provide compassionate care and counseling.

– Experience in community engagement and public speaking.

– Familiarity with ethical humanism and the principles of the American Ethical Union.
