Forth’s continued growth has created a new opportunity on our Business Development team for an individual with a passion for supporting innovative projects that advance electric mobility. This role is primarily responsible for fundraising and business development efforts that help Forth secure the financial support it needs to carry out its mission and grow its impact. As part of the fundraising team, the Business Development Manager helps manage funder cultivation, funding proposals, business development proposals, new partnerships, and process improvements. In collaboration with Program Managers and other fundraising staff, this individual will develop new products and services and cultivate new stakeholder relationships.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, efficient, flexible person who can cultivate strategic relationships and opportunities, manage many competing assignments and deadlines, and assist where needed at this growing, dynamic organization. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Grant and Proposal Development (~80%). Working closely with the Senior Business Development Manager and Programs team, the Business Development Manager supports funder cultivation to advance transportation electrification.

  • Work with Forth staff, external partner organizations, and current and potential funders to generate revenue from a variety of sources (including electric utilities, government agencies, foundations, and other sources).

  • Identify new funding prospects; serve as team point person on select funding opportunities; and manage the development of funding/concept proposals and the application process, including the preparation of appropriate documentation.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations to facilitate joint work and grant proposals, including preparing or writing grant applications and, occasionally, grant reports.

  • Identify and lead process improvements for the fundraising team to ensure efficiency, streamline efforts, and improve proactive coordination with other Forth teams using Asana, Salesforce, Google Drive, and Dropbox.

  • Help with regular updates to the annual Revenue Budget Tracker, ensuring fundraising team members properly assign duties, keep each other informed of progress, and communicate with team leads.

  • Establish and steward relationships with program officers at select foundations (with the support of Senior Manager).

Business Development (~20%)

  • Represent Forth in new market segments and new geographic regions to identify key opportunities and potential new funders.

  • In collaboration with Program Managers and other fundraising staff, develop processes for creating new products and services at Forth that align with industry trends.

  • Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and best practices to identify emerging opportunities, threats, and needs.

  • Develop and manage stakeholder relationships with key groups such as local government agencies, partners, community-based organizations, electric utilities, charging solution providers, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required:

  • A passion for Forth’s mission and values and a desire to deepen your understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or related field

  • Great networking skills and ability to cultivate program and funding relationships and opportunities

  • Track record of successful fundraising efforts, including complex grant writing such as federal proposals, with a creative, entrepreneurial approach

  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  • Ability to efficiently manage and prioritize many competing day-to-day assignments and deadlines while keeping Forth’s big-picture strategy in mind

  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10% each year, including overnight

Helpful: 

  • Working knowledge of electric vehicles and charging

  • Existing relationships with relevant stakeholders (foundations, governments, electric utilities, transportation agencies, charging companies, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with matrixed organizations; ability to use systems thinking and interpret complex stakeholder needs

  • Experience working for a non-profit organization with a mission-driven staff and board

  • Experience with Salesforce, Asana, Google Drive, and/or DropBox

COMPENSATION

Starting salary range is $65,750 to $80,750 annually, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include four weeks paid vacation annually, fully paid health, dental and vision insurance for the employee and all dependents and an employer retirement contribution after six months (no match required).
